Things to do in Santa Fe de Antioquia: one and two day plans

Santa Fe is best explored on foot and without hurry. The best moments are early morning and late afternoon; at midday, the plan is a pool.

10 things to do

  1. Walk the main square and cathedral. The Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception was built between 1797 and 1837. More in historic center.
  2. Find the other churches: Santa Bárbara, Chiquinquirá, Jesús Nazareno and San Pedro Claver, each on its own small square.
  3. Walk the Calle de la Amargura and look at the entrance halls, wooden windows and doors.
  4. Cross the Puente de Occidente, about 4 km from the center, best late in the afternoon.
  5. Try tamarind pulp at the stalls on the square. See food.
  6. Spend a pool day at a hotel with a day pass.
  7. Come in December for the Film Festival, with free open-air screenings. See festivals.
  8. See Easter week, one of the oldest in Antioquia according to local tradition.
  9. Head out to Sopetrán and San Jerónimo, the neighboring towns of farms and fruit.
  10. Stay the night: the town changes when the sun goes down and the squares fill up.

Bring a hat, sunscreen and water. Between 11 am and 3 pm the sun is strong almost all year; check the weather by month.
