In high season and on Friday afternoons, buy your ticket in advance. Buses drop you at the Santa Fe terminal, from where you walk to the center or take a moto-taxi to your hotel.

By car through the Túnel de Occidente

Leave Medellín heading west on the road to the coast (San Cristóbal) and go through the Fernando Gómez Martínez Túnel de Occidente. Since it opened in 2006, the distance dropped from about 79 km to about 55 km and the trip got more than an hour shorter. After the tunnel you descend past San Jerónimo to Santa Fe. There is a toll on the way.

The return on Sundays and holiday Mondays often has traffic at the tunnel and entering Medellín. Leave early or after 7 pm.

Where to stay depending on how you arrive

If you arrive by bus, it is practical to stay in town: see hotels near the main square. If you drive, you can pick countryside hotels or hosterías with parking. To stop along the way, read Sopetrán and San Jerónimo.
